A visually compelling feature design for the LSA Magazine that elevated the storytelling through layered collage imagery, thoughtful typography, and a cohesive, earth-toned aesthetic.
MORE INFO —
For the Fall 2024 issue of LSA Magazine, I designed a feature story that brings science and storytelling together through a rich, collage-inspired visual language. Using a blend of natural elements—like plants, pollen, and molecules—woven seamlessly with living beings such as insects, frogs, and humans, the artwork illustrates the delicate and essential balance of biodiversity. Shapes and organic forms converge in a layout that reflects the interconnectedness of all life on Earth.
The muted, earthy color palette grounds the imagery in a naturalistic tone, while the dynamic composition hints at both harmony and urgency. Typography plays a central visual role, with the story title styled in contrasting weights—from hairline to bold sans serifs—allowing the letterforms themselves to become vessels for layered textures and images. Just like the story’s message, the design invites viewers to look closer, to see how everything is connected.

Early concept sketches were shared with both the story’s writer and the magazine’s editor to ensure visual direction supported the narrative from the outset. Presenting these initial visuals early in the creative process helps align artistic interpretation with storytelling goals, sparking collaboration and allowing space for refinement before production moves forward.
